Problem:
Chinese users are not familiar with the brand.
Key Insight:
Genesis needs to boost brand awareness and strengthen product recognition.
Solution:
Build a digital ecosystem throughout digital platforms, including the website, and WeChat mini-program. Users can explore everything about Genesis including, social sharing, event participation, branding experience, e-commerce, vehicle configuration, and store information. It’s more than a digital experience, it’s also a way to connect customers with Genesis's offline service.
Results:
In the initial month following the launch of our website and WeChat mini-program, we have witnessed a remarkable engagement, evidenced by over 20,000 registrations for test drives.
Problem:
Most Chinese users are used to booking their hotel and food with over-the-air apps, not Marriott's website.
Goal:
Address users' needs to optimize their experience, and let users enjoy Marriott's advanced customer service.
Insights:
1. Our clients are having trouble with getting non-member information, so they have no idea how to expand their membership.
2. Clients can build up users' goodwill toward the brand by efficiently solving problems for users.
Solutions:
1. Create membership and register programs for existing members and encourage members to create profiles for passersby. By collecting passersby's information, our clients could create opportunities to educate them and enroll as members.
2. Provide more convenient online booking experiences for both hotels and food, and boost users' brand loyalty.
Result:
As of now, our program proudly serves a growing community of over 30,000 users.
Problem:
The UI is very outdated and not consistent.
Target Users:
Chinese health professionals.
Solutions:
Establishing a design system with trendy UI elements. This app has a lot of content, so I decided to use icons to visually express some objects, actions, and ideas. Icons also allowed us to reduce text, save screen space, and enhance aesthetic appeal.
Results:
Our program is currently influencing the practices of over 27,000 healthcare professionals across China, with the potential to impact the healthcare outcomes of a substantial number of patients.
One thing that I learned from this intern experience is how to collaborate with a cross-functional team. I found that is essential to understand each other’s duties, what they are capable of doing, and the time they need so that we can communicate more effectively.
In addition, real-world UI is very detailed and clean so developers can understand and code it immediately. For example, I need to work on the different statuses on the bottoms — original, hover, click, and disabled.
Internship work is very different from my school work since I worked with real clients and I had to work as a team. Over the five months in Shanghai, I met a great team with so many talented people and was blessed with amazing mentors.
This was my first UI/UX design internship, and I have experienced multiple distinguished projects in this fast-paced design agency. Apart from learning both design soft skills, I also had a better understanding of myself — what I like to do and what I need to improve in the feature.
